Allied Motion Technologies Inc. was formerly known as Hathaway Corporation. Hathaway was incorporated in Colorado in 1962 as Hathaway Instruments, Inc., a manufacturer of power monitoring instrumentation.
In 1982, the company's name was changed to Hathaway Corporation at which time motion control products had become an important part of the company's business.
In July 2002, Hathaway sold its power and process instrumentation business. The Hathaway brand name remained with the divested power business, and so in October 2002 Allied Motion Technologies was adopted as the company's new name, a name in keeping with the company's now exclusive focus on the motion control industry.
Also in July 2002, Allied Motion acquired Motor Products Corporation, its first acquisition since adopting its new motion control strategy. At the time of the MPC acquisition, Allied Motion had two other motion control companies: Computer Optical Products, Inc. (COPI) and Emoteq Corporation.
In May of 2004, Allied Motion acquired Stature Electric, Inc. of Watertown, NY. Stature brought new markets and additional capabilities in geared motor products to Allied Motion.
Then in August of 2004 Allied Motion acquired Precision Motor Technology B.V. (Premotec) of The Netherlands. Premotec added smaller, precision brush and brushless motor products and technologies in addition to a presence in the European market.
More recently, Allied Motion acquired Agile Systems of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, a supplier of advanced motion controllers. And, in December of 2010, Allied acquired ?stergrens Elmotor, located near Stockholm, Sweden, with additional operations in Ferndown, UK and Changzhou, China. Both Agile and especially ?stergrens in addition to offering their standard products specialized in engineering custom motion control solutions for their customers — a perfect fit with Allied Motion where we emphasize motion solutions that change the game.
Together, these companies form the core of Allied Motion today, and are the foundation upon which Allied is building its future as a leading supplier in the motion control industry.
